Alfred's Medical Update

Created date

February 9, 2018

Many of you will remember Alfred, his story has had ups and downs but we are thankful for many of you who have faithfully supported him throughout his journey, giving financially towards his life saving medical treatment. We thought that now would be a good time to give you an update on his health and well-being.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Alfred’s journey, here is a short summary. Alfred was highlighted to us by one of our Widows of Worth Self Help Groups as being in desperate need of medical attention. His wife had left him with four young children and due to his medical condition he was struggling to care and provide for them. After extensive investigation, we found that Alfred was suffering with stage four cancer and he needed immediate amputation of his leg alongside chemotherapy to have any chance of surviving.

We put out an appeal and with the support from many of you, we were able to get him the life saving treatment he desperately needed. Alongside this we were able to build him and his children a new home.

Alfred was given the all clear and he was able to move into his new home. Sadly since then, Alfred started to get sick again and it was thought that the wound from his amputation had become infected. After further tests, a biopsy has revealed that the cancer has returned.

We are currently getting Alfred the medical attention that he needs and as part of this he is undergoing chemotherapy. We hope to see him make a full recovery. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped Alfred get this far with his treatment.

Situations like Alfred’s have highlighted the need to have an emergency medical fund, which will allow us to be ready to meet the need of urgent situations that cannot be predicted.

If you would like to become a monthly emergency medical sponsor, or run a fundraiser in aid of cases like Alfred's we would love to hear from you. Please contact us at [email protected] for details on how you can get involved.
